Huawei Zurich Research Center is a leading European hub for cutting-edge computer vision and AI research. The Computer Vision Lab at Huawei Zurich is seeking Robotics Research Scientists with strong expertise in learning-based control for dexterous robotic manipulation, grounded in computer vision and haptic sensing. You will be at the forefront of designing intelligent control systems that enable robots to perform complex, human-like manipulation tasks in both simulated and real-world environments.
You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and engineers to develop innovative algorithms and systems for learning to control robotic manipulators through imitation learning, reinforcement learning, learning from demonstration, and teleoperation frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct cutting-edge research on learning-based robotic control algorithms for dexterous manipulation tasks.
- Develop and deploy methods that combine visual perception and haptic feedback for real-time control.
- Design and implement imitation learning and reinforcement learning pipelines for real and simulated robots.
- Researching and adapting VLA foundation models for real-world robotic control tasks.
- Build and optimize teleoperation systems to enable human demonstrations for robotic learning.
- Create and manage large-scale robotic simulation environments for data generation and pretraining.
- Transition algorithms from simulation to real robot platforms and validate their performance in real-world settings.
- Publish in top-tier robotics and AI conferences and journals (e.g., ICRA, RSS, CoRL, NeurIPS, CVPR).
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD or Master degree in Robotics, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, or a related field.
- Strong experience in robotic manipulation, learning-based control, and multi-modal sensor fusion.
- Proficiency in imitation learning, RL, and learning by demonstration for control tasks.
- Hands-on experience with robot simulators (e.g., MuJoCo, Isaac Gym, Gazebo) and real robotic platforms (e.g., Franka Emika, UR, Allegro Hand, Shadow Hand).
- Familiarity with teleoperation systems, VR-based demonstrations, or haptic telepresence.
- Solid programming skills in Python and C++ with relevant frameworks (e.g., ROS, PyTorch, TensorFlow).
- Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional research teams and contribute to high-impact publications
