Senior Researcher - New storage Media Control Systems Technologies
Overview
Huawei is a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider. Driven by a commitment to operations, ongoing innovation, and open collaboration, we have established a competitive ICT portfolio of end-to-end solutions in Telecom and enterprise networks, Devices and Cloud technology and services.
Our ICT solutions, products and services are used in more than 170 countries and regions, serving over one-third of the world's population. With 197,000 employees, Huawei is committed to develop the future information society and build a Better Connected World.
Huawei's Zurich Research Center is responsible for advanced technology research, architectural development, design and strategic engineering of our products.
The size of our cloud platform is gaining momentum and it is already planet scale. Huawei Cloud is one of the largest and fastest-growing platforms in the world. It has strong presence with over 40 availability zones located across 4 continents and 23 geographical regions, covering locations such as Germany, Hong Kong, South Africa, or Brazil, among others.
Now we are looking for a: Senior Researcher - New Storage Media Control Systems Technologies
Responsibilities
As a member of our Huawei Future Storage Team you will:
- Conceptualize and develop the next-generation control system technologies in Huawei storage solutions
- Lead the design, development, testing, and validation of the control technologies in the advent of emerging high-performance multi-tier storage systems exploiting solid state as well as magnetic storage media
- Drive the intellectual property and academic cooperation strategy, along with formulating a technology roadmap for a competitive and bleeding-edge product portfolio
- Define firmware requirements and guide the entire prototyping cycle, make decisions to realize the key technical solutions
Requirements
- PhD in mechanical engineering or other domain-related disciplines
- 3+ years of experience in control technologies for magnetic storage drives or related fields
- Proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink; familiarity with DSpace MicroLabBox or similar hardware platforms is a plus
- Excellent understanding of dynamics of motion systems in the time and frequency domain, including analytical frequency transfer functions
- Excellent knowledge of motion control in the frequency domain with PID and model-based feedforward and feedback control-principles that effectively deal with mechanical dynamic anomalies of the plant
- Deep technological understanding of electromechanical actuators, mainly based on the electromagnetic Lorentz principle; familiarity with reluctance force and piezoelectric actuators is a plus
- Deep technological understanding of model predictive control techniques applied to electrical drives, particularly to permanent-magnet synchronous motor drives
- Prowess to match simulation models with reality, to translate a real system into a sufficiently simplified dynamic model and to use the derived dynamic properties to design a suitable, practically realizable controller
- Excellent interpersonal skills, team-work spirit, and cross-domain leadership
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- Willingness and ability to travel
At the future storage research group at the Huawei Zurich Research Center, you will become part of a multicultural team of leading European Researchers with expertise spanning from microarchitectures to mathematics.
We believe such breadth in the research domains we cover is crucial to succeed in our mission to drive new research and achieve new, innovate breakthroughs for future computing and storage systems. If this speaks to you, do be sure to apply!
