With 28 sites across Europe and 2000 researchers, Huawei’s European Research Institute (ERI) oversees fundamental and applied technology research, academic research cooperation projects, and strategic technical planning across our network of European R&D facilities. Huawei’s ERI includes the new Zurich Research Centre (ZRC), located in Zurich, Switzerland. A major element of ZRC is a new research laboratory focused on research in the area of computing systems (new computing and storage hardware, new software, new algorithms).
The research work of the lab will be carried out not only by Huawei’s internal research staff but also by our academic research partners in universities across Europe. The lab will provide an “open research environment” where academics will be encouraged to visit and work on fundamental long-term research alongside Huawei staff in an environment that, like the best universities and research institutes, is open and conducive to such scientific work.
One of the directions of this new ZRC Laboratory is research on future storage systems. Huawei storage products focus on All Flash, All Cloud, and All Intelligence strategies, and we provide a wide portfolio of storage products to help customers meet storage demands brought by rapid business growth. We serve more than 8,000 customers in over 150 countries around the world, and have been named a leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for General-Purpose Arrays for two consecutive years. We have established joint laboratories with the world's top universities and research institutes to develop new storage technologies, and have also worked with worldwide partners to provide storage solutions across various industries.
For the new ZRC Laboratory, we are seeking candidates for research on future storage systems.
Responsibilities:
- Track state-of-the-art developments in novel storage technologies;
- Be collaborative in developing and prototyping end-to-end solutions with researchers within the group, researchers and engineers elsewhere in the company, as well as with external researchers in the open source community, universities, and other labs;
- Contribute to the state-of-the-art developments in novel storage system research, preferably by contributing to the corresponding open software frameworks and by publishing high quality material in renowned academic conferences and journals.
Requirements:
- A Master/PhD degree in Computer Science or more than 2 years’ experience in storage system design/optimization, especially in high-performance NAND-based SSD systems;
- Experiences with development and optimization from two of the following domains: Linux, storage systems, high performance computing, firmware of SSD.
- Research interests in computational storage, near data processing, AI/ML storage systems, etc. would also be highly relevant.
- Solid programming experiences, including with C/C++/Python/Shell;
- Excellent intercultural communication, coordination, presentation and reporting skills and ability to work productively in a research environment;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, team-work spirit and independent working capabilities.
