Researcher - Battery Modelling
If you are enthusiastic in shaping Huawei’s European Research Institute together with a multicultural team of leading researchers, this is the right opportunity for you!
Who we are
Huawei is a global ICT leader, with 180,000 employees and solutions used in 170+ countries, serving one-third of the world’s population. Our Switzerland Research Center - Zurich focuses on advanced research in computer architecture and energy technologies.
Responsibilities:
• Simulate and analyze battery cell behavior, including charge/discharge cycles, temperature effects, and degradation. Develop and implement advanced cell balancing algorithms to optimize battery pack performance and BESS lifetime under electricity trading.
• Development and implementation of BESS model codes, consisting of single cell models(considering intrinsic cell-to-cell variations of SOC, capacity, resistance, temperature, swelling, capacity fading rates, increase of inner resistance as well as other module/system materials and components with impact on battery characteristics and performance based on unique characteristics of lithium iron phosphate cathodes), liquid cooling thermal management, power conversion system (PCS) models, and efficiency calculations.
• Analyze experimental and field data to calibrate and validate simulation models. Contribute to GUI development and tooling to improve the usability of our simulation environment. Responsible for closely collaborating with Headquarter Research Team of Watt Lab and product teams by regularly reports, including progress of research projects and presentation of results.
Requirements:
• You hold a master or PhD degree in either energy-storage, material science, mechanical engineering, physics, chemistry, vehicle engineering, control science and engineering, electrochemistry or in any related field.
• Strong knowledge of lithium-ion battery chemistry, cell balancing techniques. Proficiency in battery system modeling tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, Python, COMSOL, or equivalent). For python, experience with scientific libraries (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, Matplotlib) is essential.
• Understanding of BMS algorithms, including SOC (State of Charge), SOH (State of Health), and thermal management. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to analyze complex battery behaviors.
• Fluent in written and spoken English (working language). Good communication skills and multi-cultural environment adaptability.
