Postdoctoral Researcher - Applied Signal Processing and Information Engineering for High-Capacity Data Storage Systems
If you are enthusiastic in shaping Huawei’s European Research Institute together with a multicultural team of leading researchers, this is the right opportunity for you!
Huawei's vision is to enrich lives through communication and intelligent innovation.
As a fast-growing global leader in information and communications technology (ICT), we drive breakthroughs in AI, cloud computing, and smart device technologies. Through our three major business groups—Carrier, Enterprise, and Consumer—we offer advanced network infrastructure, cloud and AI computing platforms, and industry-leading devices, including smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches.
Our technologies support 45 of the world's top 50 telecom operators, and one-third of the global population benefits from Huawei innovations. With operations in over 170 countries and a global workforce of more than 200,000 employees—over 80,000 of whom are engaged in research and development—we are deeply committed to pushing the boundaries of technology.
Huawei Technologies Switzerland AG is a leading technology firm dedicated to developing cutting-edge solutions that redefine industry standards and push technological boundaries, with 29 Research Centers in Europe. Our core focus at the Future Storage Group within Huawei Technologies Switzerland AG is on advanced technologies that can effectively support and enhance the performance of high-capacity data storage systems. We believe in innovation as a driving force for improvement and are committed to achieving excellence in all areas of research and development.
At the Future Storage Group, we are hiring a Postdoctoral Researcher to investigate innovative data channel architectures for magnetic recording storage devices. In the coming 1-2 years, we aim to develop breakthrough solutions, significantly improving system capacity, and implement them efficiently on hardware developed in-house. In the long term, the channel architectures are envisaged to also include elements for the support and improvement of control system technologies, which are essential in magnetic recording systems.
The successful candidate will work on:
Identifying both existing and novel functions relevant to data recording and/or communications channels;
The design, analysis, and prototyping of highly performant, highly efficient data channel architectures that will be at the core of our next-generation magnetic recording systems.
The successful candidate will have:
1. A university degree (Master's) and a completed PhD program in Electrical, Information, or Communications Engineering.
2. Knowledge about signal processing and information engineering.
3. Understanding of coding theory and ability to implement and evaluate various decoding algorithms.
4. Knowledge of data recording or communications channel modelling and hardware implementation constraints.
5. Familiarity with numerical simulation environments for data recording or communications channels, such as MATLAB or Python. Experience with C/C++ is greatly appreciated.
6. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate in an international team.
Why join us:
Collaborate with world-class scientists and engineers in an open, curiosity-driven environment;
Access to state-of-the-art technology and tools;
Opportunities for professional growth and development;
Competitive salary, and a high quality of life in Zurich, at the center of Europe;
Last but certainly not least: be part of innovative projects that make a difference.
